Can I upgrade a kit after buying it for crystals?

I have Viking m0 and thunder m0 and I was saving crystals to buy Hammer of thor kit. Do I have to upgrade the kit later like my thunder and viking at m0?

You can micro-upgrade any turret, hull and module. It is not mandatory though, it's up to you if you want to upgrade or not.
