I am positive that I completed all steps of the Let's Be Tanki Friends event exactly as they appeared, but I have not received an email, even in spam. What should I do to get my containers?

I had never played TX or even downloaded the client before the event, and I was very careful to complete every step, in order, exactly as it appeared. The only thing I can think of that may have made the system miss me was that the client had an "Unexpected Error" and I had to re-download it. I reported the bug to Tanki X and the steps they told me to take did not fix it. I have checked all folders of my email. In TX, I de-selected the option to receive special offers via email, but surely that doesn't apply to events specifically designed to send out promo codes, does it?

If you're absolutely, 100% sure you have downloaded the game from the special link, made and confirmed a new account and played 5 battles to completion, but didn't get the promo code:
 
1) Check your Spam folder, the email could be there
2) Contact Tanki X support to confirm (help@tankix.com)
