As of present there is no way for which you can cancel your self-destruct. Though the reason that you automatically slelf-destruct when you change your equipment is so that you don't use something like Wasp and Ricochet to get to some high spot, and then switch to Mammoth and Shafft. Furthermore, if you were in a small space with a small hull, and then switched to a larger hull, that hull would no longer be fit to occupy that particular space. By forcing you to self-destruct, you are sent to one of the respawn zones which are designed to fit all of the hulls.

MarineMan2 is right, currently you cannot stop the self-destruct system.

There should be a way, but not for equipment change. One time i flipped over, hit delete, but someone helped! I still blew up!
