how does micro upgrading kits work?

If I bought an M1 kit could I micro upgrade it and if so, could I turn the turret, hull etc. into M2

Hello,

Yes, once you purchase kit you can start micro-upgrading it, when you fully micro-upgrade an item, you will be able to get the next modification for free, if you have the required rank for that modification.
