That's a glitch. If that happens and you're about to leave the battle, take a screenshot of Tanki window while pressing Tab. Send the screenshot to help@tankionline.com and crystals will be added to your account. You'll receive as many crystals as you would get if the battle ended at the time of taking the screenshot.
